Q. What is SUMMIT and how did it start?
A. SUMMIT stands for Students Uniting to Make Meaningful Influences Together. Its mission is to create a coalition with schools to inform and prevent substance and alcohol use and violence within our communities. SUMMIT began in 2001 and was organized by a group of students from Lamesa High School at the Region 17 Educational Service Center. It has grown since then into a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. Check out our history here.
Q. When is the next SUMMIT, how much is it to register, and how do I register?
A. The 2024 SUMMIT will take place on Wednesday, January 17 at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. The cost is based on when you register. It is $30 if registered by December 8, $35 if registered by December 15, and $40 if you register on-site. On-site registration does not include a meal, but pre-registration does. You can register by downloading the registration form here and sending it in to Kathy Lostroh.
Q. Who plans and organizes the SUMMIT events?
A. SUMMIT is completely planned by a Student Planning Committee made up of students and advisors from schools throughout Region 17. An Adult Advisory Committee meets once a year to give additional suggestions and provide more resources. The governing entity is the Board of Directors.
